She rests upon a log that has been overtaken with mushrooms, and in her hand is a sapling, both representing beauty found through every phase of life. Her wild hair turns from a cool brown to a beautiful shade of white where a pōhuehue vine climbs through her waves, symbolizing growth through change. As she lays here deep within the forest, basked in sunlight, skin painted by life, surrounded by ferns, butterflies and fungi, the line between herself and the rhythms of the natural world that surround her starts to blur. Where does nature end and she begin? Perhaps there is no separation at all, and all the love we have for the beauty of the forests, mountains and seas is the same love we deserve to recognize within ourselves.
12"x16" on Arches cold press watercolor paper, matted in 14"x20" solid walnut frame.
