On a peaceful lookout spot along the edge of the Kīlauea crater, Pele in all of her beauty lies before us as Koa’e kea ride on hot thermal updrafts, their way lit only by the glow of molten rock, moonlight and their ancient knowlege rooted in instinct. Fresh Pāhoehoe consumes the caldera floor and lush island plants grow right beside it, like a foreshadowing of a deeper truth. Standing here surrounded by the pure elemental forces of creation and destruction, it becomes clear that there is something deeply alive about this special place.
18"x24" on Arches cold press watercolor paper, matted in 22"x28" solid Ash wood frame.
